Addressing a conference of heads of mission in capital New Delhi, external affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj made it clear that security of Indians abroad should be the priority for Indian diplomats.
“The welfare and security of Indians abroad must be your first priority. Sushma Swaraj tells Heads of Mission in her address,” said external affairs ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup on Twitter.
About 120 Indian envoys from across the globe have gathered for the brainstorming session, during which they are expected to review the work in the past year and draw up strategies for the coming months.
Sushma has also taken up the issue of safety of foreigners in India. Ministry of External Affairs has been active in taking up the matter of attacks on foreigners in India with respective state or union territory government.
The ministry went into overdrive following the killing of a Congolese student Oliver in national capital.
The ministry also took up the issue of attack on a Nigerian girl in Telangana capital Hyderabad.
On Friday, Envoys of African countries expressed shock over killings of students of African origin. A Congolese national Masonda Ketada Oliver in Delhi last week following which India assured them of safety of African nationals.
