India's Janta Car (People's car) is witnessing a sharp decline in sales. This year the company was able to sell only 4075 Maruti-800, last year the figure was 5745. A decrease of almost 30 per cent. The company also witnessed decline in the sale to the tune of 25 per cent in the first two month’s sale in comparison with the same period last year.
This data clearly indicates Maruti-800 is fast loosing its charm as Janta car. Experts believe that after the launch of Tata Nano this month things will become even more difficult for Maruti-800.
However, Tata Nano has yet to prove itself in terms of customer satisfaction and reliability whereas Maruti-800 enjoys image of a dependable car which can be serviced by any garage or local car mechanic without any problem. Easy availability of parts would be an added advantage for Maruti-800 over Tata Nano.
In any case Maruti-800 is set face toughest challenge since its arrival in India in 80s. The car has been a favorite of Indian middle class in since its launch in India till the arrival more cars in B segment that became affordable to middle classes because of easy finance.
