Govt. urges automobile industry to boost production
At a time when global automotive industry is facing heat due to prolonged recession and companies Chrysler have filed for bankruptcy protection. Indian government has urged the automobile industry to enhance its productivity and quality to compete with the global challenge in this sector. The union government thinks that due to availability of cheap technical manpower India is better poised to take advantage of current situation.
Addressing the conference on 'Challenges and prospects for Indian automotive Industry' in New Delhi on Tuesday, the Additional Secretary of the Department of Heavy Industry, Dr. Surajit Mitra said that the industry should not focus on subsidies and fiscal incentives, but should concentrate on long term objectives to turn the challenges into opportunities.
He said India has become a favourite destination for automobile manufacturers due to its technological manpower availability.
