Voting on the women's reservation bill in the Rajya Sabha could not take place after it was moved by the law minister Veerappa Moily. Members of SP, RJD along with an expelled JD(U) MP tore off the copies of the bill.

Samajwadi Party and RJD announced their decision to withdraw the support from the UPA government over the issue. However, RJD Supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav parried away the question whether a written notice has been sent to the President in this regard or not.

The proceedings of Rajya Sabha were adjourned five times during the day before the Chair called the house to meet again at 6 pm.

However, given the stiff opposition from unrelenting opponents of the bill the Chair decided to defer the vote on the bill and adjourned the proceedings of the house till 11 am Tuesday morning.

RJD supremo Lalu Prasad, SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and JD(U) President Sharad Yadav led their members into the well each time the House was called to order.

While Rajniti Prasad of RJD tore the copies of the bill SP members Kamal Akhtar and Nand Kishore Yadav threw the Chair’s mike and papers of his table.

As pandemonium continued the Chair adjourned the House for the day.

Similar unruly scene was witnessed throughout the day in the Lok Sabha as well as the opponents of the bill kept demanding a quota within the quota for OBCs, SCs, STs and minorities.

Despite this speaker Meira Kumar continued to attend to the papers that were brought on her table.

Then both Lalu Prasad and Mulayam Singh too came to the well, shouting and asking for a quota within the quota. They led their slogan-shouting MPs in the well of the house through out the noon till the house was adjourned till Tuesday.

Law Minister M Veerappa Moily is scheduled to move for consideration and passage of the Women's Reservation Bill in the Rajya Sabha.
