Water started receding in Sangrur and Patiyala
At last there is some good news for flood affected people of Punjab. Water has receded in flood hit areas of Patiala and Sangrur districts on Sunday. However, some fresh areas of Mansa district have been inundated due to a breach in Ghaggar river. The army has been called in to fill the breach.
Media reports say that in Patiala district, 25 villages are still cut off even after water receded as roads are damaged because of the floods.
Total loss of crops is estimated to be 480 crore rupees. Committees have been formed to look after rescue measure and to provide relief to the affected people.
Medical and animal husbandry teams are also visiting the affected areas. Deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal along with senior officials visited the flood-hit areas to oversee the relief work.
In Haryana, flood has caused heavy loss to crops. Top government officials said that that 2 lakh 85 thousand seven hundered hectares of sown area are damaged in flood affected areas. The supply of fruits and vegetables are badly affected making them beyond the reach of common man.
