Same-sex couples can now legally marry in the Washington, D.C. The U.S. capital's new law allowing homosexual couples to marry took effect on Wednesday.
The capital city is the sixth place in the country to allow gay marriage after Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont.
Scores of gay and lesbian couples lined up before dawn on Thursday to apply for their marriage licenses at Washington courthouse.
However, there was a small group of protesters outside the court making it clear they believe the US is doomed because of support for gay rights. They are still trying to overturn the decision in a court of law.
