Former West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu, who was battling for life in a hospital at Kolkata for the last fortnight, breathed his last on Sunday.
Chairman of the left coordination committee Biman Bose told reporters in Kolkata, "I have to give you the sad news that Jyoti Basu is no longer with us."
Last night his condition deteriorated and there was a drop in heart beat which went below 50. A temporary pacemaker was installed immediately. However, despite these measures his situation did not improve and remained critical.
