Three Indian American scientists - Sanjay Radha Krishnakumar, Sanjay Vashee and Prashanth P. Parmar were part of the 24 member team led by Genomic scientist Craig Venter who developed the first ever synthetic cell.
The team has been succesful in creating an artificial life form using a genetic code written on a computer.
This excercise in genetic engineering can create a living bacterial cell by artificially induced man made genetic instructions and transferring this into a bacterium to alter its natural code.
Consequently the man made genome can result in the bacterial cell replicating and make new set of proteins.
