The country has sufficient food grain stock: Pranab
The government on Thursday has said that it has sufficient quantum of buffer stock of rice and wheat. Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said that 6.5 million tonnes of rice and 7.7 million tonnes of wheat will be available in government stock at the start of financial year.
He said that an early sowing of rabi crop can compensate for the 15 to 20 per cent loss of kharif crops due to poor monsoon.
He said, although rainfall deficit has been 26 per cent this season and as many as 252 districts of 10 states have been declared drought hit but the government has enough food grain stock to meet the regular requirement.
