PM released the Report Card of UPA govt.
While releasing the report card on Tuesday the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh asserted that the government will firmly enforce the writ of the State in the Naxal infested areas and at the same time pursue a policy that will address developmental concerns at the grass root level.

He also stressed that his government will fight against the scourge of communalism and political extremism to ensure the growth of a plural and liberal nation.

On the occasion he expressed the hope that this year the economy would grow at 8.5 percent despite difficult global economic situation.

However, he admitted that high rate of inflation is a cause of concern for his government. He said prices are now showing a moderating trend which is likely to continue. Dr. Singh said that government has taken a number of steps to contain the inflation and protect the vulnerable sections of the society.

Prime Minister said that the government will carry forward the pro-people policies and programmes and also seek new frontiers and directions to strengthen India's social and economic foundations.

Referring to foreign policy he said the objective is to secure for India an environment that is conducive to the long term economic development and peace and stability of the region. He expressed hope that New Delhi will consolidate its relations with neighbours and all major powers in the coming years.

Earlier, he along with the UPA Chairperson, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi released the report card. It brings to the fore a number of important decisions and measures taken by the government on the security front.
