Soni, Satish Sharma, Naqvi and Tarun Vijay among the 30 elected to Rajya Sabha

30 elected to Rajya Sahba unopposed
Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni, former union ministers Mohsina Kidwai, Congress leader Captain Satish Sharma and BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi have been elected to the Rajya Sabha unopposed.

They are among 30 candidates declared elected unopposed to the Upper House of India’s bicameral Parliament as after the deadline for withdrawal of nominations drew to close this evening. Congress and Bahujan Samaj Party have bagged seven seats each.

The BJP won five seats, the DMK three, the SP, the NCP and the AIADMK won two seats each and the Shiromani Akali Dal and the Shiv Sena one each.

In India’s largest state Uttar Pradesh, the ruling BSP got seven berths as Congress leader Satish Sharma and BJP's Naqvi were among 11 elected uncontested to the House of Elders.

Others elected to the Council of States are Satish Chandra Misra, SP Singh Baghel, Ambed Rajan, Narendra Kashyap, Mohd Salim Ansari, Jugal Kishore, and Rajpal Saini, all BSP and Mohan Singh and Rashid Masood, both SP.
Vijay Darda and Avinash Pande, both Congress, Tariq Anwar and Ishwarlal Jain, both NCP, Piyush Goel, BJP and Sanjay Raut of Shiv Sena were elected from Maharashtra.

BJP's Chandan Mitra and Anil Madhav Dave and Vijaylaxmi Sadho of the Congress made it to the Upper Houser from Madhya Pradesh.

BJP spokesman Tarun Vijay was declared elected unopposed for the lone Rajya Sabha seat from Uttarakhand.
