Schedule for Maharashtra, Haryana assembly elections announced
Assembly elections in Haryana , Maharshtra and Arunachal Pradesh will held in a single phase on the 13th of October. The counting of votes will be taken on the 22nd of October. Announcing the schedule for elections in the three states the chief election commissioner Navin Chawla said in New Delhi that the model code of conduct comes into force with immediate effect.
The notification for assembly polls will be issued on the 18th of September. The nominations will be accepted till the 25th of September, scrutiny will take place on 26th September and the last date of withdrawal will be 29th of September.
Maharashtra has 288 assembly seats, Haryana 90 and Arunachal Pradesh has 60 seats. Despite criticism the commission has decided to use EVMs for all the three state elections. Instructions have also been made for polling stations to be located on ground floor along with ramps to facilitate the physically challenged to take part in the democratic exercise.
