Amar Singh & Sanjay Dutt (File)
Film star Sanjay Dutt has also followed in the footsteps of estranged party leader Amar Singh and announced that he too has resigned as General Secretary of Samajwadi Party.
Addressing a hastily conveyed press conference in Mumbai last night Sanjay Dutt said that he is hurt by the treatment meted out to Amar Singh by some leaders of the party.
However, he said that he will remain in the party as long as Amar Singh is there.
Dutt said that the party leader Ram Gopal Yadav, cousin of Mulayam Singh Yadav, also targeted him personally by saying that the party has not won a single seat in Uttar Pradesh because of the campaigning by him.
Sanjay Dutt was appointed party general secretary in April, 2009 and his joining was seen as a big set back to the Congress party and Nehru-Gandhi family because of the long association of Dutt family with them.
Sanjay Dutt extensively campaigned during the Lok Sabha elections in April-May.
However, in New Delhi Ram Gopal Yadav described Sanjay Dutt’s resignation as very sad.
However, in the case of Amar Singh he refused to relent saying that the party president Mulayam Singh Yadav must accept Amar Singh’s resignation.
