Riyadh bound Air India plane's engine caught fire at Mumbai airport; major air tragedy averted
A major air tragedy was averted when all the 213 passengers and 16 crew members of Riyadh bound Air India flight were evacuated after the one of the engines of the plane caught fire.
The incident happened as Air India's flight number 829 was taxing at Mumbai International Airport's runway. All passengers on board were evacuated safely through emergency exit and fire was brought under control.
Air India spokesperson Mr. Jitendra Bhargav said, "At around 11.00 am in the morning some passengers saw smoke coming out of one of the engines of the aircraft. And the engine caught fire."
He said that AI crew was able to evacuate all the passengers safely. He informed that of the passengers got minor bruises due to jumping from exit ways.
He said a four member inquiry committee has bee constituted by the CMD and as per the report action will be taken.
He said all the passengers have been sent to Riyadh in the evening by a flight.
