A high-powered Group of Ministers on Thursday fixed 3,500 crore rupees as reserve price for pan-India 3G spectrum. The Empowered Group of Minister is headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee decided to allow only five operators to offer the high-speed mobile services in the first phase.
Four new players will be given spectrum along with one existing public sector operator MTNL or BSNL.
After the meeting, Telecom Minister A Raja told reporters that the government will complete the auction of 3G spectrum within three months.
He said that the government also expects to raise 25,000 crore rupees from sale of both 3G and WiMax spectrum.
The eGoM also fixed the reserve price of 1,750 crore rupees for the WiMax services, wireless internet connectivity services.
