Pranab asks CBDT,CBEC to increase tax collection by 10%

Rs 3.96 lakh crore indirect tax expected
The Finance Minister Pranab Mukerjee today asked the CBDT and the CBEC to increase tax collection targets by 10 per cent for the current fiscal.

Talking to Media persons after a meeting with the CBDT and CBEC officials in Kolkata, Mr. Mukherjee said, the reason for raising the targets is demand on the exchequer and to meet subsidies.

The government aims 3.96 lakh crore rupees as the indirect tax collection for the current fiscal. The target of 5.30 lakh crore rupees has been set up for direct tax.

Chairmen of CBDT and CBEC and other officials of the direct and indirect tax departments, along with the revenue secretary, were present at the meeting.
