Pakistan based terrorists have local support in India: Chidambaram
Union home minister P. Chidambaram has said that Pakistan based terrorist organization continue to plot terror attacks against India. He said that they get support from disgruntled elements of the country that lends an Indian character to their activities.
Perhaps this is the first time that any union home minister has publicly acknowledged local support to Pakistan sponsored terrorism.
Until now it was official policy to deny existence of any local support to terrorism. Even during the Mumbai attack India vehemently denied any local support to dastardly attack on Mumbai last November.
"Cross border terrorism is a matter of deep concern. Terrorist groups including LeT and JeM persist in their endeavour to launch terror attacks. They continue to innovate new ways and means of deniability," said Mr. P. Chidambaram in his inauguration speech at a meeting of heads of state police forces in New Delhi.
He also acknowledged the local support, "They find support among disgruntled elements within India. Cells and modules within India lend an Indian character to these activities."
Home minister urged the police officers to find innovative ways to detect and deny these opportunities to adversaries.
Home minister said: "Intelligence is the key. We were able to bust 12 terrorist modules in 2008 and, in the first half of the current year; we have been able to neutralize 13 modules."
