PJ Thakkar takes charge as Director Technical of REC

Thakkar joined REC in 2005
PJ Thakkar has been appointed as Director (Technical) on the Board of Rural Electrification Corporation Limited with effect from 2.5.2011. With a career spanning 32 years, he has extensive experience in all three segments of the Power sector viz. Generation, Transmission & Distribution (T&D).
Thakkar has earlier served as Executive Director (T&D/RGGVY) in REC, guiding the overall T&D portfolio of the company and has also been in charge of Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana, scheme of Ministry of Power, Government of India, an important component of the Bharat Nirman programme for the development of rural and household power infrastructure all over India.
He joined REC in 2005, and has earlier worked with Power Grid for 15 years in sub-station design, engineering. He served as a core member for switchgear specifications for 800/400/220/132 KV and was also a member of India’s first 400-KV TCSC Project Implementation Team.
Prior to this, he had an experience of 11 years in the areas of erection, testing, commissioning and O&M of hydro generators and associated switchyard equipment in NHPC. Thakkar also served as Advisor to the Government of Nepal for the O&M of Devighat HE Project during 1985-86.
Besides being instrumental in the strategic framework and successful implementation of several high-profile power sector projects, Thakkar serves on various company Boards and has also to his credit numerous technical papers in national and international seminars. He is a member of CIGRE and AIMA, and is an alumnus of the Electrical Engineering discipline in M.S. University, Baroda (1979).
