More than hundred people are feared killed in one of the worst ever flood in Leh district of Jammu and Kashmir. Local media reports say that the flood was caused by heavy torrential rain in that region. Landslides also caused road blocks in many parts of Jammu and Kashmir. The Srinagar-Leh National Highway remained closed due to the sudden Flash Flood in Kargil District.
Five people were killed when heavy downpour triggered landslides in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. There are reports that a number of roads have been blocked in various parts of the state due to landslide.
In Uttar Pradesh, the light to moderate rain has occurred in western and eastern region of the state.
The situation has considerably improved in the flood affected districts of Terai and western region. The water has receded from the villages and fields. Local media said that spread of contagious diseases had been reported from Bareilly, Pilibhit and Lakhimpur Kheri.
In Himachal Pradesh, monsoon remained active with Jubbarhatti recording maximum rainfall of 66 mm.
In Chhattisgarh, the National Highway 43 passing through Bustar has been cut off due to heavy rain. Long queues of vehicles still await water to recede from the road. The entire state including Bustar received intermittent but heavy rainfall during the last night throwing normal life in Bustar out of gear.
Light to moderate showers brought the mercury down in Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana. The national capital experienced overcast sky with no rainfall. However the mercury continued to hover below normal with the maximum temperature settling four notches below normal at 30.2 degrees.
