New air quality norms unveiled to combat air pollution

Union Government today unveiled tough new air quality norms to combat air pollution. It has placed uniform national air quality standards for residential and industrial areas. The revised norms have been issued after a gap of fifteen years.
On the occasion Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh said that the removal of the distinction between the two areas as very important.
The announcement of the newly notified Revised National Ambient Air Quality Standards-2009 came just less than a month before the crucial UN Climate Change Summit in Copenhagen scheduled in December.
