NTPC Bags Scope Gold Award for HR Management for 2008-09

Leading public sector power generation company National Thermal Power Corporation has bagged prestigious SCOPE Meritorious Award for the best HR practices.
President of India Pratibha Devisingh Patil conferred the award to NTPC in New Delhi on Saturday. Chairman and Managing Director of NTPC RS Sharma received the trophy from the President of India.
Heavy industries minister Vilas Rao Deshmukh, minister of state for heavy industries and heavy enterprises Arun Yadav was also present on the occasion.
NTPC said in a statement, "NTPC is a leader in power generation, but also in People Practices. It strongly believes in achieving organizational excellence through Human Resources and follows "People First" approach in order to leverage full potential of its 25,000 strong workforce."
The company said that it believes in the philosophy of putting the people before the plant load factor (PLF).
The statement said, "NTPC is committed to employees' total well-being and believes that emotional well being is as critical as physical well-being."
The company says that its HR practices are continuously revised on the basis of employee feedback and it launched a 'system of employees' survey' in 2009. The system is aimed at identifying unit level and Company level factors that affect employee engagement.
NTPC was featured in top 25 companies in India in a recently published study 'The best companies to work for – 2010'. In another survey conducted by Great Place to Work (GPTW) Institute Inc., India and The Economic Times in 2009, NTPC was awarded 10th place amongst the Top 50 preferred employers in India.
NTPC also ranked 1st amongst large organizations, 1st amongst PSEs, and 1st amongst manufacturing and production sector by this study.
