Software industry body, NASSCOM on Friday hit out at the US H1B visa legislation, introduced in the Senate on Thursday, saying its provisions are targeting Indian firms and restricting their ability to compete in the US market.
NASSCOM said though the stated objective of the Bill is to prevent fraud and visa abuse, several of the provisions of this Bill are against the principles of free trade.
NASSCOM Says:
NASSCOM President, Mr. Som Mittal said that in many ways, it is targeting Indian companies and restricts their ability to compete in the US marketplace. He said this is also against President Obama’s stand against protectionism at the G20 Summit. The US Bill, which among a host of provisions favourable to US professionals, requires all employers who want to hire an H1B guest worker to first make a 'good faith' attempt to recruit a qualified American worker.
