In a clear signal to the world that India takes the issue of global warming seriously and ready to participate in the formulation of an agreement at Copenhagen Summit India's Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh had announced on Saturday that he will attend the summit.

Prime Minister's office said in a statement, "Prime Minister will undertake a two day visit - on 17th and 18th of this month."

Earlier Indian government had decided that Forest and Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh would lead Indian delegation to the summit.

However, Indian leader changed his mind after insistence from the US president Barack Obama and French president Nikolas Sarkozy.

Barack Obama said to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that he would be glad to see him in the summit during Dr. Singh's recent visit to the US.

It was repeated by French President Mr. Sarkozy during his meeting with Manmohan Singh in Port of Spain on the sidelines of CHOGM summit last month.

More than 80 world leaders are expected to participate in this important summit.
