Populist rail budget is likely
The railway minister has dedicated this year's rail budget to the ordinary citizens of the country. She said the common man is the asset and strength of our country.
Sources, she is unlikely to raise the fares this time. However, experts believe some rationalization is expected in the case of freight rates.
This year's railway budget will have special thrust on tourism sector. The ministry has a plan to offer package deals to travellers for the country’s important heritage sites.
Expansion of Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) connecting Mumbai with Kolkata and Chennai with Mangalore are also expected to be announced in the budget.
Mamata Banerjee hinted that Kharakpur station can be included in the list of world class railway station project.
The ministry is already working to upgrade fifty important station to the world standards.
