Millions of devotees took holy dip at Sangam in Allahabad, a town in North India. According to the government estimate more than eight lakhs people have taken the holy dip by noon and the number was expected to double by the evening.

A district administration official told the media, "The Kalpwasis (devotees who camp at the Sangam for the entire month) are concluding their Kalpwas (month long stay) with this holy bath on Magh Purnima."

The rising temperature in northern part of the country also encouraged the devotees to throng the Ghats.

The Mela administration has made elaborate security and civic arrangements for comfortable and safe bathing. Police also deployed large number of divers on the boats to deal with any problem to the devotees.

In Hardwar, more than two lakh devotees took a dip in Holy Ganges on the Occasion of Magh Purnima.
