The central bureau of investigation has registered a case against SK Kaushik, a junior engineer of Municipal Corporation of Delhi, for allegedly offering a bribe of Rs. six lakhs to an investigation officer of CBI.
CBI said in a statement that the accused, with the intention to influence the case against him, visited the official residence of the Investigating Officer of CBI and sought to discuss the case with him. He also offered 'Prasad' and 'Gangajal'. Alarmed by such visit of the accused, the Investigating Officer refused to talk to the accused and asked him to leave the place immediately.
CBI said the accused, however, insisted upon the Investigating Officer to accept the 'Prasad'. Faced with the persistent refusal by the Investigating Officer to accept even the 'Prasad', he left it at the premises of the IO and moved away.
The Investigating Officer immediately contacted his superior officers and independent witnesses were called in whose presence the said box of 'Prasad' was opened. The box contained 6 bundles of currency notes of Rs. 1,000/- each amounting to Rs. six lakhs, below two layers of the sweets.
Later on, search was conducted at the residential premises of the accused Junior Engineer. Incriminating evidence relating to payment of such bribe was recovered.
The accused is absconding since registration of the case and is yet to join investigation. In the meantime, accused moved the court of Special Judge, New Delhi for anticipatory bail which has been rejected by the court.
