Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party voted out of power after 54 years
Japan's opposition Democratic Party has begun talks on forming a new Government after a landslide victory in Sunday's Parliamentary elections over the party that dominated Japanese politics for more than 50 years.
Media exit polls give the Democrats more than 300 out of 480 seats in the House of Representatives. The party already controls the Upper House.
The leader of Democratic Party Mr. Yukio Hatoyama said, "It will be a reversal of seats in the house."
Official results are expected later on Monday and the Democratic Party leader, Yukio Hatoyama is likely to become the new Prime Minister, taking over from the conservative Taro Aso.
