Japanese Prime Minister pitched for intensifying bilateral trade with India, particularly in infrastructure and technology during his meeting with top industry captains of the country in Mumbai on Monday.
Bilateral trade between India and Japan reacted to US$ 12 billion in 2008-09 and both the countries are making effort to increase it further.
Japanese Prime Minister observed that Japanese investment in India is still lower than in China. Mr. Hatoyama said that there is a vast scope in investment in areas like Infrastructure and other primary sectors.
Mr. Yukio Hatoyama held separate closed door meetings with Tata Group Chairman Ratan Tata, Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani also met Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi discussed various issues with Hatoyama including the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor project, a large area of which passes through Gujarat. Sources said, the meeting will open up new vistas of partnership in ship-building, solar energy and renewable energy initiatives.
The closed-door meeting between Hatoyama and Tata came in the backdrop of healthy market response to the recently-launched joint venture between Tata Teleservices and Japanese telecom giant NTT DOCOMO and successful acquisition of Ranbaxy by Daiichi Sankyo.
