Inflation rises at slowest rate in over three decades
Inflation in the country rose at the slowest rate in over three decades, at 0.44 per cent, for the week ended March 7, as most food and fuel items as well as some manufactured products became cheaper.
A high base effect due to the 7.78 per cent inflation in the corresponding period of last year also had a depressing effect on the inflation rate. Inflation fell by 1.99 percentage points, from 2.43 per cent during the week ended February 28. Commerce Secretary G K Pillai said inflation is no longer an issue.
