Road Network on Nepal Border will be upgraded: Home Minister
Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram has said on Saturday that 2,200 kilometer long roads along the Indo-Nepal border will be constructed.
564 kilometers long roads will be constructed in Bihar alone. He was speaking on the occasion of foundation laying ceremony for an integrated checkpost at Raxaul in Bihar.
Home Minister said that the communication network along the Nepal border will be upgraded as well.
Chidambaram said that the construction of the ultra modern checkpost will help further enhance trade and commerce between India and Nepal. The second checkpost in Bihar will be set up at Jogbani. Other eleven checkpost will be constructed at different places in Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Megahalya and Tripura.
Official sources in the Home Ministry say that this checkpost will also be helpful in keeping strict vigil on smugglers and check movement of Maoists.
Raxaul checkpost is the second integrated chekpost after Atari which is being constructed along Indo-Pakistan border in Punjab. This Checkpost will be equipped with high tech security gadgets and other instruments to facilitate trade and immigration.
Government plans to have dedicated passengers and cargo terminal at the the checkpost besides separate customs and immigration facility. There would also be modern financial services like banks and foreign exchange cell at the checkpost.
