India seeks deportation of Anup Chetia from Bangladesh
India has asked Bangladesh to deport outlawed ULFA leader Anup Chetia, whose jail term is going to end soon. Indin government hopes hopes that the Sheikh Hasina government would accede to the request in view of its tough resolve against terrorism.
Chetia, whose real name is Golap Baruah, has been in jail since his arrest in Dhaka in January 1998 from Shyamoli area under the Foreigners Act and the Passports Act.
New Delhi is of the view that deportation of Chetia would be a major confidence-building measure at a time when the two countries are working to give a push to their ties.
