Stringent Screening at Airports (File)
The Union Home Ministry has put Air India, Indian Airlines and all other air carriers in the South Asia region following specific intelligence input.

Indian intelligence agencies received the input that al-Qaida and Lashkar-e-Taiba are planning to hijack an Indian airliner.

Mr. U.K. Bansal, the special secretary Internal Security, said in New Delhi on Friday that this input has been received from Western intelligence agencies.

Government has ordered mandatory checking of passengers operating in and out of India and sky marshals have also been deployed on the flights.

A directive has also been issued to Indian missions abroad to take up the issues with local airlines flying to India.

The security has been beefed up on all airports across the country to ward off any potential terror attack.

Lashkar's Paragliding Threat!

In a related development, security officials have taken measures to protect important installations in New Delhi from aerial attacks. Indian intelligence agencies received input that Lashkar operatives have procured some 50 Para gliding equipments from European Countries.

Indian officials are of the view that the banned terror outfit may use these Para Gliders to carry out suicide attacks in New Delhi in the run up to Republic Day celebrations.

Security agencies carried out a mock drill in New Delhi to prepare to deal with this kind of attacks.
