Manmohan at Climate Conference.jpg
The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has asserted that India is doing enough to combat the global warming. Dismissing the criticism by some developed nations, he called for strengthening domestic capacity building to deal with the problem. Addressing the national conference of state Environment Ministers in New Delhi this morning, he said that India recognises the importance of the challange posed by climate change and it has to be addressed in right earnest.

He urged the states to create action plans consistent with the national plan to deal with the challenge of climate change. Dr. Singh sought their cooperation for the success of eight national missions and other key components of the national action plan on climate change.

Strongly criticizing the delay in environmental clearances, he called for quick decision making with a specified time frame. Dr. Singh said envorinment clearances have become a new form of License Raj and a source of corruption. He stressed the need for an effective coordination between the Centre and the States, vital for building a credible and effective system of assessment and clearance.
