India celebrates tenth anniversary of Kargil victory
Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh joined the nation in paying homage to Kargil war heroes on the 10th anniversary of operation Vijay. Indian Army successfully pushed back Pakistani intruders on this day after 59 days of conflict from icy heights of Kargil. The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh led the nation in paying tributes.
Dr. Singh wrote in the visitors' book at Amar Jawan Joyti at India Gate that the best tribute to war Heroes is to rededicate ourselves to the gigantic task of nation building and work steadfastly to protect the unity and integrity of the country. Dr Singh was accompanied by the Defence Minister A.K.Antony, Navy Chief Admiral Sureesh Mehta and other senior officers of the Army and Air Force.
Special first day cover on operation Vijay, was released by Lt. General P.C. Bhardwaj. This postal stamp carries the photographs of operation Vijay and Drass War memorial.
