LeT responsible for fomenting trouble in Kashmir: Chidambaram
Home Minister P Chidambaram said that anti-national elements fomenting trouble in the Kashmir valley are clearly linked to Pakistan-based banned terrorist group Lashker-e-Taiba.
He said the two militants recently killed in an encounter with security forces in one of the areas in Sopore were linked to LeT.
Firmly backing the state government in dealing with the violence in the Kashmir valley, Chidambaram said that meeting chaired by the Prime Minister on the situation in Jammu and Kashmir felt that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's statement yesterday was firm and clear.
However the union government clearly reiterated the need for the CRPF to exercise maximum restraint in dealing with stone palters and rioters. However government said that the curfew must be strictly enforced.
Pledging centre's full support to the Jammu and Kashmir government in dealing with the situation, the Home Minister expressed the confidence that law and order will be restored in few days. It was also decided to provide full security to the Amarnath Yatris .In reply to a question, he said continuation of Armed Special Forces Act, ASFA, in the State is before the the Cabinet Committee on Security, CCS.
11 persons have lost their lives in the valley since 11th of this month and 53 CRPF personnel were injured, two of the hit by bullets.
