India, Russia sign five pacts in Defence, Nuclear Energy and Space Research

India and Russia have signed five agreements to increase cooperation in the areas of defence, civil nuclear energy and space sciences.
Both the countries have finalized their defence cooperation pact as well.
The agreements include: cooperation in the use of atomic energy for peaceful purposes, construction of Russian designed nuclear power plants in India, Memorandum of Understanding on the joint production of satellite navigation equipments etc.
Earlier in the day, both Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and his Russian Counterpart Bladimir Putin held wide ranging discussion in New Delhi.
Talks between the two leaders lasted more than two and a half hours.
India and Russia have agreed to intensify their consultations on Afghanistan and how to deal with the problem posed by terrorists in the region.
Both the countries agreed to enhance their corporation in the area of hydrocarbons, oil and gas and information technology sectors as well.
Mr. Putin assured India that Russia has no military cooperation with Pakistan.
