India Flu update: 8 deaths reported on Monday; 1135 deaths so far

Eight more patients have died in the country on Monday due to infection of deadly H1N1 virus. Seven deaths have been reported from the second worst affected state Gujarat and one death has been reported from Kerala.

The report of eight earlier deaths have been received from state health authorities - six from Gujarat and two from Rajasthan. All put together and you reach the death toll of 1135 patients in the country so far due to this pandemic.

This figure only represents the lab confirmed cases.

As expected Maharashtra is still the worst affected since the disease first struck in the country - 300 deaths till date.

Second worst affected state Gujarat accounts for 189 deaths so far. Even state chief minister Narendra Modi was infected with this deadly virus. He was infected during an official trip to Russia.

Rajasthan is the third most affected state with a death tally of 172.

Karnatka accounts 137 deaths, National Capital Delhi 89, Andhra Pradesh 52, Kerala 35, Punjab 37 and Haryana report 34 deaths.

India's largest state Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh both account for 17 deaths each due to this deadly virus.

Surprisingly southern state Tamilnadu seems to be able to contain the spread of virus despite high infection rate during the initial phase.

Till date samples of 1,19,814 (one lakh nineteen thousand eight hundred and fourteen) people have been tested in the country's laboratories and 23.56 per cent of them have been found positive.

Almost one in every four person who was tested had been found infected with the disease and most of them are indigenous cases.

On Monday 56 new cases have been confirmed and all of them are indigenous.
