the ELT will help fishermen in distress
Bangalore based Indian Space Research Organisation is working on to develop a low cost version of Emergency Locator Transmitters (ELT) to ensure timely help to fishermen/seamen in distress in mid sea.
A seniour ISRO official said in Chennai on Saturday that the existing ELT costs about ten thousand rupees.
NK Shrivastava, Manager of Bangalore-based Indian Mission Control, said that the ELTs can be activated anywhere and the signal sent by it would be picked up by INMCC.
He said, "The signals then would be relayed to the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC), which will in turn alert the Coast Guard."
He informed that this will be sophisticated device and will use digitally included unique code in the message which will also include the location based on Global Positioning System.
