After one month long poll process which was divided in five phases the outcome is not surprising to political observer in this resource rich state. They have anticipated a fractured mandate after the long delayed election.
No single party or alliance is in a position to form the government in the 81 member Assembly. With a fractured mandate, the JMM again emerges as a key player in government formation.
Congress with allies has won 25 seats while BJP and its allies retain second slot with 20 seats. The main beneficiary of this fractured mandate appears to be JMM which has won 18 seats and therefore holds the key in the formation of the next government in the state.
The Congress and its ally Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) has emerged as the largest group winning 25 seats. Congress had nine seats in the outgoing assembly. Congress ally JVM (Prajatantrik) led by Babulal Marandi has bagged 11 seats.
The major loss was for the BJP. The party has won 18 seats, while ally Janata Dal (U) have bagged only two seats. In the outgoing assembly BJP had 30 seats while ally JDU had six seats.
The JMM has improved its tally by one seat bagging 18 seats. In the last assembly, it had 17 seats.
RJD had 7 seats in the last election. It has now won five seats. RJD allies, CPI, CPIM and Lok Jan Shakhti Party of Ram Vilas Paswan all drew blank. BSP also could not open its account in the state in this election.
