Inquiry only after games are over: MS Gill
The Government on Tuesday said that it is willing to hold any inquiry into the alleged corruption in the Commonwealth Games related projects after the games are over. However, the opposition was not satisfied with the reply and staged a walkout in the Lok Sabha even as the Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Dr. MS Gill was replying to the discussion on the issue.

Sports Minister Gill said that work in all the major stadiums have been completed and called on the members to shift their focus on the players and the games now.

Dr. Gill said that it is the question of the prestige of the country and everybody should try to ensure that the games are conducted successfully.

Rebutting opposition charges that huge amounts have been spent on the renovation of the stadiums, the Minister said the venues, which were constructed long back are as good as new ones and their grandeur is seen to be believed.

The BJP members took serious exception to a remark by the Minister that more information can be sought through the Right to Information (RTI).

Leader of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj said that RTI provision is above Parliament and walked out of the house. The members belonging to Samajwadi Party, also walked out later when they did not get any assurance from the minister on a JPC inquiry in to the issue.

Earlier, during the discussion on the delay in preparation for the mega event, the opposition charged the government with delay, corruption and lack of coordination between various agencies responsible for the preparation of the games. The ruling benches, on the other hand, accused the opposition of taking political mileage of the situation at the cost of the country's prestige.
