Govt. sails through cut motions
The Lok Sabha on Tuesday rejected all the opposition cut motions including those seeking roll back in the prices of petroleum products and fertilisers. The hike in excise on petrol and diesel was announced in the budget in the first part of this session.
The two cut motions moved by the leader of the opposition Sushma Swaraj and Gurudas Dasgupta were also rejected after division.
Other cut motions were rejected through a voice vote. The Loksabha later passed the demands for grants for the ministries which were not passed earlier.
Earlier, the SP and RJD members staged a walk out from the House opposing the position taken by the Left parties to vote with the BJP on the cut motions.
This is for the first time the speaker allowed the cut motions about specific ministries during guillotine in which demands of grants for various ministries are passed without any discussion.
