Govt. to launch special drive against polio type 1 & 3 viruses

The Government will soon introduce special oral polio vaccine to deal with type 1 and type 3 viruses of Polio in the wake of recent increase in polio cases.

The new vaccine will be more effective against both the viruses. Health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said this while launching a special polio drive on the occasion of Children’s Day at a MCD school in New Delhi on Saturday.

He said that the Government is committed to completely eradicate Polio from the country.

Mr Azad also emphasised for the development of a regestry of immunized children which could be verified independenly.

The Special Polio Drive is being conducted in 10 states including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Maharashtra and others. About five lakh children were administered anti-polio drops on the occasion of Children's day.
