NATGRID project will be implemented soon
Highly placed official sources in union home ministry has said that its ambitious project NATGRID will be subjected to an independent audit by the cabinet committee on security headed by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.

They say that the move will prevent any misuse of inter linked data or any privacy issue that may arise.

The NATGRID project will help law enforcement and investigating agencies to get quick access to desired information by integrating present data with various departments. It is likely to be operational by mid next year.

"The NATRGRID will have independent audit by the Cabinet Committee on Security. To enter the data, one needs to have an authorisation code," a highly placed source in union home ministry said on Thursday.

"All this data is already available with various government departments. What is being done is to integrate all the data so that one can easily gather information about a suspect. We are not collecting any new data from the people. We are just making the system more responsive," he said.

Govt. said that it will keep record of every official who accesses the NATGRID system to gather information regarding individuals.

"So, we will know who has gone into what account and for what purpose."
