Govt to be able to meet deficient monsoons situation: PM
The Prime Minister today assured the countrymen that the government will be able to meet the situation arising out of deficient monsoons. Addressing the nation from the ramparts of the historic Red Fort in the National Capital this morning on the 63 Independence Day, Dr. Singh said the country has enough stocks of food grains and all efforts will be made to control the rise in the prices of food grains and other essential commodities.
The Prime Minister also appealed to the state governments to use their powers to prevent hoarding and black marketing of essential commodities. Assuring the farmers of all help to deal with drought the Prime Minister said date for re-payment of bank loans has been postponed and the farmers are getting additional support for the payment of interest on short term loans.
In his 6th Independence Day speech in a row and the first after the UPA government began its second term, the Prime Minister said that the greatest challenge the country faces today is to restore growth rate to nine per cent. He said effort will be made in this direction and expressed the hope that the situation caused by global melt down will improve by the end of this year.
