Govt. suspended export of Onions
The government has decided to suspend onion exports in the wake of skyrocketing prices of the commodity. According to an official press release, there will be voluntary suspension of issuance of No Objection Certificates by NAFED, NCCF and STEs.
Speaking on the sidelines of a function, Commerce Minister Anand Sharma said that the issue of rising prices of onions was reviewed by his Ministry with the Ministries of Agriculture and Consumer Affairs. Mr. Sharma said that the high onion prices are mainly due to hoarding.
Meanwhile, NAFED and other government trading agencies will start sale of onions from today through their outlets to make them available to consumers at a reasonable price.
