Govt. says there will be no roll back in fuel price hike; NDA calls for 'Bharat Bandh' today

NDA called for General Strike on Monday
The union government on Sunday ruled out any possibility of rolling back the increase in fuel prices, even as the alliance led by main opposition party BJP called for an all India strike on Monday to protest against price hike and inflation. Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee told media in Kolkata that there is no question of rolling back fuel price hike.
Officials are taking all steps to ensure that there was no untoward incident during the strike. Essential services like milk, water, hospitals are exempt from participation in the bandh.
Delhi Police have made elaborate arrangements to ensure safety and security of the people in the national capital. Delhi Police spokesman, Rajan Bhagat told reporters that the police has mobilised all extra forces including central paramilitary forces and training forces to ensure smooth flow of traffic across the city.
Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjeev Dayal has warned that, anyone who takes law into their hands and attempts to paralyse the city shall be dealt with strictly.
In West Bengal, Police has set up special control rooms in all district head quarters to monitor the situation. Districts administrations have also been instructed to maintain vigil to avert any untoward incident.
Talking to reporters after a meeting of NDA and its allies in New Delhi, Senior BJP leader LK Advani has cautioned that the opposition will hold a series of agitations against price rise and the issue will be raised in the forthcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament.
Communist Party of India (CPI) said that the left parties along with other secular democratic parties and opposition in general, have also called for a general strike from 6 AM to 6 PM on Monday.
