Govt. rejects opposition charge on spectrum allocation
Rejecting the opposition charge of a major scam in the allocation of spectrum to service providers the government said that allocation was done in accordance with the prescribed procedures and guidelines set by the Telecom Regulatory authority of India.
Replying to a debate on the working of the Communications and Information Technology ministry, the Minister Mr. A Raja said license were issued on first come first serve basis and it was done in a transparent manner and not in a stealthy way as is being alleged.
On the opposition allegation with regard to license fee, Mr. Raja said that TRAI is statutory body and it was for it to revisit the issue of entry fee.The Minister said that the allocation issue was pending in the courts of law and the government will abide by whatever the courts decides.
He also said that in his reply that rules have resulted in higher tele density and and 68,000 crore rupees were collected, 23000 crore rupees in 2007-08 itself. The opposition was however not satisfied with his reply and the BJP, the Left parties and the AIADMK staged a walk out.
