Govt plans to collect data of Indian students studying abroad
Concerned over the spate of racial attacks on Indian students in Australia, the Centre is planning to collect the details of students going abroad for education.
Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi told reporters in Thiruvananthapuram that based on the information gathered, a data bank of Non-Resident students along with other NRIs would be set up.
The Minister said it has also come to the Centre's notice that some illegal groups sending students abroad for education are operating in South India like the fake job recruitment agents. He said a bill to provide voting rights to NRIs is also under the Parliament's consideration.
