De-regulation is necessary: Kirit Parikh
The Kirit Parikh committee has recommended deregulation of retail prices of all the major petroleum products. As per the committee a hike of Rs. 3 a liter is necessary in the prices of petrol and diesel.

The committee also recommended Rs. 100 increase in the price of domestic LPG cylinder and Six rupee per liter hike in case of Kerosene oil.

Mr. Parikh submitted his report to petroleum minister Murli Deora in New Delhi on Wednesday.

After submitting the report he told the media that the de-regulation of the petrol and diesel prices could result in an increase of 3 rupees per liter of petrol and 3 to 4 rupees for diesel.

The report said that a long term viable policy needs to be adopted regarding retail prices of petroleum products.

It said that it should limit the financial burden on the government and keep the industry healthy and competitive. The report will be submitted to the union cabinet the next week.
