The government has expressed its concern over strike called by Jet airways pilots that has resulted in disruption of the airlines operations and inconvenience to air travelers.
Home Secretary GK Pillai has written to the to all states to review the situation in their States with regard to the 'Wildcat' strike by Jet Airways pilots leading to disruption of flights.
He has asked state chief secretaries to consult with the states home and labour secretaries to see the necessity to invoke ESMA.
Govt. is considering to invoke ESMA to ensure restoration of services so that general public are not put into inconvenience.
As per the available information 145 Captains and 154 Co-pilots of Jet Airways have reported sick en-mass resulting in the cancellation of 119 flights. 4 international flights and 115 domestic flights have been canceled.
The government has said, "As per the Civil Aviation Requirements, any act on the part of pilots, which may results into last minute cancellation of flights and harassment of passengers, would be treated as an act against the public interest."
Meanwhile Jet Airways chairman Naresh Goyal briefed civil aviation secretary Madhavan Nambiar Mr. N. Zaidi, director general of civil aviation in New Delhi.
The government has asked Jet Airways to ensure that its passengers are accommodated in other airlines and full refund without any deduction on passengers' request.
